Setting up online calendar sharing for clients and customers

Today I’ve been looking at some options for how to make my Outlook/Exchange calendar publicly available, so customers and clients can see when I’ll be in their area.

A few good ways I’ve found to do this are below 🙂

1. By publishing your calendar to Office Live.  You can now access online at: https://calendars.office.microsoft.com/pubcalstorage/y9r615bz1213697/Jeff_Everett_Calendar(1).htm

2. You can also let people subscribe to a calendar by having your clients use a Calendar/email viewing probram like Windows Live Mail, Outlook, or even Apple iCalendar and Mozilla Thunderbird.

a. Download the free Windows Live Mail program here, or at http://get.live.com

b. Subscribing through Office Live (also free!) or through your own WebDAV server.  Here is a link to subscribe to my calendar via Office Live so updates to my schedule will be automatically delivered to your compatible calendar/email program, as mentioned above.  webcals://calendars.office.microsoft.com/pubcalstorage/y9r615bz1213697/Jeff_Everett_Calendar(1).ics

Let me know how this works, I’m curious to hear your feedback!

Talking about Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor 2.0.3001.0 (Windows), from Microsoft – Free Downloads on ZDNet | Shareware

If you’re interested in upgrading your existing PC to Windows 7, you can use the free download from Microsoft, the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor," to scan your PC and help you understand whether everything will work, whether a clean install will be required,  or if an in-place upgrade will work for you, saving time and the headache of backing up and reinstalling all your programs and data.

The "official" download is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15

I invite you to take a look at what ZD net has to say as well, and if our download above isn’t working it’s mirrored below:

Good news for my music-making friends :-)

From the looks of it, cakewalk and some of the other major audio recording software companies are going to be moving to supporting the new x64 (64 bit) version of Windows 7 to help with latency and a gazillion other things when it comes to recording.

I met Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s Chief Software Architect today!

If you’re not already familiar, Ray is Microsoft’s “Chief Software Architect” and was the driving force behind a lot of the new synchronization services like Groove, Live Sync, and the Live Mesh (beta for now).

Mesh is probably the most useful thing to come out of Redmond since Office, IMHO.  Totally amazing, FREE, service.  www.mesh.com

We had a short but REALLY exciting conversation about what’s happening in the relatively near future with the Windows Live Essentials, and I can’t wait till we announce some of the new features publicly.

Here’s an article from Wired last year on what Ray is doing for MS:

Hope this was interesting, have a great day!

How traders killed investing – MSN Money
A market dominated by nontraditional trading forces explains, in part, why GM shares have kept so much value. Arbitrage traders make a lot of contrarian moves. They buy to cover their short positions. They sell to take a profit. All they really need is for the price to move.

There’s no simple solution to the problems of the market. A few proposals today aim to improve things a bit, such as the elimination of naked shorting, reinstatement of the uptick rule and more transparency of traders’ holdings. Some people, like David Weild of Grant Thornton are calling for separate markets for certain securities, such as newly issued stock.

But separating investors from traders in the market would destroy it. The market needs both. Traders, after all, provide regular price discovery and the other side of the deal. They keep the market moving, but they’ve also replaced investors as the market’s driving force. Don’t bet on that changing anytime soon.

why i love my job

I’m writing this on a pc running windows 7, which will release this holiday season.  Right now I’m syncing some of the music I’ve downloaded to the one device I rely on most, my AT&T Tilt running, thanks to xda-developers.com WM 6.5, also to be released over the next few months.  In a moment Here’s a photo from said phone, so everyone can see how pretty the rosebush in my entryway is.

Getting to play with all the latest gadgets and technology is a blast!
