these days i’m back in the corporate world, now in a full-time IT role, so i’ve had less time to write but it’s time to get back into the habit.<\/p>\n

the projects I’m into lately are largely home-theater related, although i’m now using this as learning material for automating things like updating channel listings with a basic .bat file and task scheduler.<\/p>\n

i’ve become a huge fan of http:\/\/Plex.tv\u00a0<\/a>, which offers\u00a0what I consider to be the best media management option around. \u00a0Not only does it draw together all your media, but it offers remote access via HTTPS (albeit only for plex pass subscribers or lifetime pass holders). \u00a0channels for tons of content from basic stuff like Pandora and YouTube are available for easy download from within the web UI.<\/p>\n

for more adventurous types, you can add plugins for HBO Go, Spotify, and even the HDHomeRun Prime. \u00a0these will often have dependencies on python, perl, or something of the like, so getting them to work is likely to require some time and attention. \u00a0the results on a 10MB upload and LTE are pretty amazing \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0encrypted content like HBO of course won’t work, but it never does outside windows media center.<\/p>\n

HD HomerunViewer<\/a> turned out to be a pretty slick alternative to slingbox for me. \u00a0iinding the plugin download<\/a> and forum thread<\/a>\u00a0was tough during\u00a0the plex forums outage so I included them here, but it looks like the forum thread has everything working again.<\/p>\n
